How did Sony manage to ‘snatch defeat from the jaws of victory’? So, it’s only natural that by the turn of the century Apple, a computer company, invented the iPod, which spawned the iPhone and flipped the portable music space on its head. What? Yep, whilst Sony had the brand and all the ingredients to continue its domination into the 21st century, it got disrupted – BIG TIME! Sony Music owned the rights to the content. All the big names were on their books and they had a global distribution strategy to match via their own stores and 3rd party channels. Sony was dominating, and it wasn’t just the miniaturisation and portability of the hardware. The Discman was uber cool. It came in different styles and colours. The housing of the CD got slimmer over time. The sound was crisp. You either had one, lied and said you had one or made sure you buddied up to your friend on the bus that had one in the hope that they would lend you an earphone, so you could listen and bounce to the beat together. It fundamentally changed the way we enjoyed music. The shackles were off. We were no longer confined to ‘the room where the radio was’. Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince … all sat comfortably (somewhat) in our pocket.įast forward to late 80’s and we had a replacement to the cassette tape – the compact disc aka CD. CD’s were slim, allowed for more storage and most importantly allowed us to let go of analogue and step into the world of digital. Sony began to realise the potential of the CD, and their execs pushed for a means to provide an even better experience for mobile listeners. Cranked it up to 11 and got your groove on … yep, those were the days.Pressed the rewind button and waited till the strip of tape came back to the original position (who remembers listening to the tape wind back and hearing that satisfying stop which meant it was time to party?).Pressed the eject button to open the cover of your Walkman.Grabbed your favourite tunes that were on your analogue cassette tape. For the millennials out there, the Walkman was released by Sony in the late 70’s, caught on in the 80’s and for the first time ever, music and mobility came together. The age-old proverb “a picture is worth a thousand words” goes hand in hand when creating an icon for your app. It is necessary for an app icon to be understood by itself. Another great tip for Android is to use a transparent background in the app icon (as exemplified by Spotify below) so that it adapts to the user’s preferred mode. Typically, you want your app icon to look polished on both white and black backgrounds. For example, you should use contrasting colors in both modes. When designing your app’s icon, keep in mind that they should look as good in dark mode as in light mode. Headspace’s app icon as shown in AppTweak’s App Page Preview for the App Store (US). Therefore, think about your brand and the services you offer, your unique value proposition, your app’s use, and its main benefits. You don’t want to create an abstract app icon that will leave users unable to grasp what your app is about. While it’s true that you should not clutter your icon with too many details, make sure your app icon is concise and conveys your app’s main functionality. Tip #2: Your app icon should communicate your app’s purpose Examples of free games (sports) icons with simple designs on Google Play. The official recommendation of Silhouette America for DXF users at this point is to roll back your software. how do I fix this mess? I just want to cut! Here's what this part would look like after running Smooth if the loops weren't there: (To make it quicker, make sure to compound path all of your pieces first otherwise you'll have to select every piece one at a time.) If the loops weren't there you could select a shape and click Smooth in the top menu to delete all of those extra points. You can see there are still a bunch of tiny loops. This is the same file from the first image with five times the points added: Usually we fix this by adding more points to the shape before saving it as a DXF, but this time around no matter how many points you add, smaller curved areas are still going crazy. All of a sudden you're pretty four point circle is an ugly polygon. That's why sometimes you'll see a curved piece open up in DXF format as a bunch of straight lines put together. So what's causing the issue to begin with? According to Silhouette something went wrong in the current version's rendering of DXF's. You see, DXF files lack the ability to draw curves. So if this has happened to you, delete the old DXF files and unzip your zip files for fresh ones after following the steps below. I also found someone with the same issue who reopened their files in Inkscape and had the mess follow them back. The Silhouette Studio Pop Up Creator has extended features that are available in the premium Designer Edition and above, but all of the features that I used in the video are available with the free version of Silhouette Studio, too.Ĭheck out the video to see how to make a print & cut pop up card in Silhouette Studio v. Then, just make the pop up base a regular cut file and print & cut the image or images separately. If you want to be able to make a larger print and cut card, you can design the image on the pop up element as a separate piece that will fit over top of the pop up base shape. I also made a full size base for the card (it’s a regular cut file, no printing involved), and that piece is 3.5 inches wide by 9.75 inches tall. The dimensions for the interior rectangle (the piece with all of the clip art images) are 3 inches wide by 9.25 inches tall. Because of this, I made a 4 bar size card, which is a little bit smaller than an A2 or A7 size. The entire interior design for this card is one layer, so everything needs to fit inside the registration marks in Silhouette Studio. In this video tutorial, I’ll give you a step-by-step walkthrough for designing a print & cut pop up card using clip art from the Mum’s Garden collection. 4 and above makes it super easy to make pop up cards from pretty much any clip art that you have. The new Pop-Up Creator feature in Silhouette Studio v. The speed of the tread of the tire relative to the axle is v, the same as if the car were jacked up and the wheels spinning without touching the road. This pit moves through an arc length ( Δ s ) ( Δ s ) in a short time ( Δ t ) ( Δ t ) so its tangential speed isįigure 6.5 A car moving at a velocity, v, to the right has a tire rotating with angular velocity ω ω. To get the precise relationship between angular velocity and tangential velocity, consider again a pit on the rotating CD. Tangential velocity is the instantaneous linear velocity of an object in rotational motion. For an object rotating counterclockwise, the angular velocity points toward you along the axis of rotation.Īngular velocity (ω) is the angular version of linear velocity v. For an object rotating clockwise, the angular velocity points away from you along the axis of rotation. The direction of the angular velocity is along the axis of rotation. Now let’s consider the direction of the angular speed, which means we now must call it the angular velocity. The units for angular speed are radians per second (rad/s). If an object rotates through a greater angle of rotation in a given time, it has a greater angular speed. Which means that an angular rotation ( Δ θ ) ( Δ θ ) occurs in a time, Δ t Δ t. Sometimes, objects will be spinning while in circular motion, like the Earth spinning on its axis while revolving around the Sun, but we will focus on these two motions separately. Spin is rotation about an axis that goes through the center of mass of the object, such as Earth rotating on its axis, a wheel turning on its axle, the spin of a tornado on its path of destruction, or a figure skater spinning during a performance at the Olympics. Examples of circular motion include a race car speeding around a circular curve, a toy attached to a string swinging in a circle around your head, or the circular loop-the-loop on a roller coaster. Circular motion is when an object moves in a circular path. We will discuss specifically circular motion and spin. What exactly do we mean by circular motion or rotation? Rotational motion is the circular motion of an object about an axis of rotation.
